Makita 9.6v Battery

This battery is the lightweight, light duty 9 volt lithium-ion battery in the Makita cordless power tool line, part of a long list of industrial-quality power tools and accessories.  It is compatible with original equipment that was shipped with the tool and the newer, more advanced versions of the Makita battery charger.

Over time all rechargeable batteries, including a rechargeable 9 volt battery, need to be replaced depending on how often they are used and recharged. For this reason you should always stick with the high quality parts made by the manufacturer.

Makita 9.6v compact lithium-ion battery has a built in memory chip which memorizes the usage history and transfers that information to the charger, which enhances battery life. Lithium-ion batteries are durable and weigh 20% - 40% less than nickel metal hydride or nickel cadmium batteries with sufficient 9 volt battery amp hours.

Lithium-ion batteries have no memory effect and are able to be charged and conditioned at any time in the battery cycle. The latest in battery charging technology controls current, voltage & cell temperature which is critical in maximizing battery life.

There are other brands that make battery packs for a variety of tools and manufacturers. A good example is the Energizer 9 volt battery. However, it is recommended that you only use parts and accessories provided by the original equipment manufacturer.

In general, nickel metal hydride batteries offer longer run time than nickel cadmium batteries and are more environmentally friendly.

Replacement batteries are usually shipped in a discharged state and typically require a full charge before they are used for the first time. This goes for all types including lithium-ion, nickel cadmium, etc. Also, when you are not using them, all batteries should be stored in a cool dry place. As a safety precaution, be sure to inspect them periodically to check for signs of excess wear and tear or leakage.
